KZO-L - chemical protection suit, which was in service with the USSR Air Force.
KZO-L was designed to protect the skin of Air Force flight crew members from light radiation from a nuclear explosion, radioactive dust, toxic substances and biological agents. This suit was issued to pilots for flights on combat missions in the event of the actual use of weapons of mass destruction.
The KZO-L set consists of a protective suit, a hood and a pair of protective gloves.
KZO-L consists of two-layer fabric, the inner one is lighter in color, the outer one is darker.
There are also 5 pockets on the suit, one small with Velcro, where they usually put a second magazine for a pistol. There are two large pockets with a zipper.
There are also 2 pockets for gas mask filter elements.
The KZO-L hood is made in one piece, in fact it is not a hood but a helmet, it is also made of two-layer fabric.
On the front of the hood there is a viewing window made of soft plastic sewn to the fabric.
Just below there is a valve with a hole for a corrugated tube; it closes with Velcro.
At the back of the head, as on OZK hoods, there is an adjustment for a person’s head. Also on the side of the back of the head there are Velcro for attaching the hood to the collar of the overalls. On the overalls itself, the Velcro is located just below the neck. The hood itself is put on the head after the gas mask.
As for the mittens, they have their own characteristics, they are two-fingered (usually military chemical protection mittens are three-fingered, for ease of shooting). There is also a cutout for the hand on the palm, which allows you to quickly free your hand from the glove for quick access to the equipment.
